Hi all, What I was told, and have experienced since then, is the following : 1. in 4.1 : a SecureClient includes the Policy Server, and must be installed on a system having a Firewall Module, so not on the Management Server 2. in NG : when you buy a SecureClient license you get one Policy Server license with it, but they show up as two different licenses : VSC for SecureClient and VPS for the Policy Server 3. When you upgrade from 4.1 to NG, the process at the User Center gives you the two new licenses 4. When you want redundancy, buy one SC license and a 2d PS license, this will give you the needed SC licenses and two Policy Server licenses. So let me ask this in as straightforward a manner that I can think of: Is there a policy server license separate and apart from the SecureClient license for FW-1? I've never seen a "policy server" license myself, and according to Check Point, the purpose of a SecureClient license is to enable the use of one VPN-1 Module to act as a SecureClient Policy Server. Maybe NG operates differently in this regard (I'm more familiar with v4.1) and if these are indeed two separate licenses, then can someone please explain the purpose/function of each? Thanks for your time. -CJ -----Original Message----- From: Mailing list for discussion of Firewall-1 [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Richard Marshall Sent: Monday, May 20, 2002 11:20 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FW-1] Secure Client licensing hi, we use a distributed environment. the relevant lics that we have are: CPMP-ESC-U-DES-V41 - unlimited management CPVP-VFM-250-DES-V41 - firewall/vpn lics (we also have a number of RL type licenses) CPVP-VSC-50-V41 - SC license we also have an SR license, which we have been using without any problems for over a year. When I was implementing Securemote I experimented with SC, but failed to make it work due to the lack of a policy server license. (I couldn't use the management server as a policy server, as there was no FW-1 module installed, and couldn't use the gateways because they didn't have the correct license.) Is it possible that our VAR didn't pass a policy server license on to us!? thanks in advance rich -----Original Message----- From: Mailing list for discussion of Firewall-1 [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Joe Pampel Sent: 20 May 2002 16:44 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FW-1] Secure Client licensing To run SC for v4.1, you should have 3 lic total: Your CPFW-FIG-XXX lic for the FW/internet gateway Your CPVP-VSC-XXX lic for # of secure cleint connections and finally a CPFW-ENC-XXX encryption license which is the Mgt Station piece. do an fw printlic and see what you're missing. If they sold you a VPN setup without the encryption lic, then you should spend some quality time on the phone with your VAR <IMHO. > Joe >>> Richard Marshall <[email protected]> 05/20/02 10:56AM >>> >>> Don, do you know if this is true for all versions of FW-1? I have 'inherited' a 4.1 system. We have an SC license, but no policy server license, and therefore can't use SC until we purchase one.
