Switch logs frequently by using "fw logswitch [name of new log]" You could use a cron job to automate your log backups. Ex: 0 1 * * 6 /opt/pkg/FireWall-1*/bin/fw logswitch [name of new log] (States Every Sunday @ 1am, switch the FW-1 log file to the new name) After this line, you will want to rename the new log file to something like (Date 26Mar2002-08:30), so next Sundays logswitch will not overwrite the previous Sunday's. This process is done by using a line similar to : 5 1 * * 6 mv /opt/pkg/FireWall-1*/log/[name of new log].log /var/admin/fw1/logs/`date`.log -----Original Message----- From: Network Security [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, April 01, 2002 8:35 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [FW-1] Checkpoint FW1 sp5 The log files on our FW1 are becoming very large, too a point where they are unmanageable. We currently log everything long, is this a common practice? Also I would employ a script that would back up the logs daily and roll them over. But I am terrible at scripting, does a how-to for this procedure exist? Phone boy is a great site, but it assumes your already script proficient. ================================================= To set vacation, Out Of Office, or away messages, send an email to [email protected] in the BODY of the email add: set fw-1-mailinglist nomail ================================================= To unsubscribe from this mailing list, please see the instructions at http://www.checkpoint.com/services/mailing.html ================================================= If you have any questions on how to change your subscription options, email [email protected] =================================================
