RE: [FW1] question about 4.1 SP4 "new feature"

Title: RE: [FW1] question about 4.1 SP4 "new feature"

The original question is a good one.  I have found no details regarding the new mechanism, but the "old" HA mechanism was limited to hubs because it utilized a duplicated MAC for each member of the cluster.  This would obviously lead to STP blocking in a switched environment (turning off Spanning Tree might make it work, but would certainly not be supported).  I *assume* that the mechanism introduced in SP4 (as well as NG) is based on multicast.  Anyone?

Hi Raymond,

You can only use hubs for operative and control interfaces for the firewall
HA in SP2 and below.  Then came SP3, whereby switches are supported in HA
environment, but was in a beta version.  SP4 fully support switches in HA
environment.

Hope this helps.

Kevin

I was reading the release note about CP 4.1 SP4.  On page 3, it states that
"Check Point High Availability now supports switched environment".
Exactly, what does this mean?  Are they taking about spanning tree protocol
or something else?

Thanks.
