There is a lot of data and it is all broadcasts. Latency could get to be an issue on a collision domain or if you put in multiple hops. In your case, VLANs should keep the broadcasts from flooding other nodes as well as eliminate collisions. In that case, gig-Ethernet should have the bandwidth. You may wish to dedicate a reasonable bandwidth to the VLAN. What is "reasonable" depends greatly on the traffic loads on the firewalls. -- Crist J.
