I am generally a proponent of trying to figure out what is specifically wrong before upgrading, and if I were you I would consider testing the health of the box periodically -- memory usage, cpu utilization, interface statistics, etc. Barring that, I believe that ipso 3.3 was the first version where they implemented flows. Both the version of your firewall and the version of IPSO have seen some pretty significant improvements since then. Read the release notes for the versions after 3.3 and see if anything touches upon stuff you may be subject to. The upgrade and bacout path is pretty easy on those boxes. I also believe that if you are on IPSO 3.3 you may not have to upgrade the boot manager and that is the only real gotcha. Be sure to back up everything before trying the upgrade. If so, every how often? Or maybe just kill the firewall processes, and then restart them?
