ICMP packet come in _many_ varieties, and contain various information. The most common are Echo/Echo Reply (ping), Destination (port or host) unreachable, and TTL Exceeded messages. Go to www.ietf.org, and search the RFC index for the RFC number for Internet Control Message Protocol. If you look up that RFC (on the same pages) you will find a list of the various ICMP types and codes.
