RE: [FW1] NT Server 4 Firewall-1 4 WEIRD Problem - HELP

I guess this wouldnt be a good time to mention the Microsft virtual adapter,
and licensing to it? (HINT) I agree that you should have a static IP. Thats
what I did.. My cable modem bill went from 50 to 250.00 when I did. It
really depends on whether your connection is for business or pleasure, and
how much you are willing to spend.

Let me guess....you aren't using a "business" account with a guaranteed
static IP address.

Here is how it works, you configure for DHCP and get a lease.
Then you take that IP address and punch it in as a static, reboot, cut a new
license key
for Checkpoint, and you are good for a couple days....
Then your lease expires, and someone else is leased your current address and
the process repeats.

The solution is to get a true static IP address. However, I have seen some
peculiar activity
even with a static when using DOCSIS and "baseline privacy". It seems that
the ARP entry on
the router for my static gets considerably aged and the only way to renew
connectivity is to
reset the DOCSIS modem which performs bootp to get a new management IP
address
and it's bootfile which has a bunch of SNMP mibs entries set...otherwise,
you have to telnet
into the UBR router and clear the old ARP entry (but that is hard unless you
have friends at
the cable co..heh)

Checkpoint doesn't like to cut new license keys, wonder how you are managing
this. 8)

> I have an NT4 SP6 machine with Firewall-1 4 , attached to an SDSL modem
with a 1Mb pipe to my ISP. I am using NATand I am blocking
all NBT traffic. Here is the weird problem....It can be 12 hours, 2 days or 3
days, but eventually my external interface stops
passing packets. NT Event viewer shows no events. When I reboot the Nt
Server, i receive the infamous IP Conflict message telling me
that I am in conflict with the mac address of the CISCO router on the other
side of my DSL Modem. I have tried different NICS to no
avail. To solve the problem I need to configure my external NIC for DHCP,
disable Checkpoint. restart and obtain an IP address from
the DHCP server which has a reservation for my external NIC. After
successfully obtain my IP, I again configure for static IP,
enable Checkpoint, restart and all is well again until the next time. I have
tried a switch in between my Firewall and the Modem
thinking that broadcast traffic was messing me up. No help. Please Help !
