Aloha Brian, There are some things you want to take into consideration when setting up solaris. which partitions are dynamic.which are static. / reletively static if you break out /var and /opt and any user data /home /var is the most dynamic partion. make it its own partition I set this to at least 500 meg to 1 gig. /opt is where packages are installed give it some good room to grow. I usually give this the same or more that /var. /usr/openwin is where the openwindows packages are installed. some say you should break this out as well I don't usually. if you do it reduces the size required by the / partition /tmp your swap partition. I set this to double your ram. if you run out of swap space your server will crash the same goes for the / partition. here is how my partitions look 0 root wm 0 - 3657 1.76GB (3658/0/0) 3687264 1 swap wu 3658 - 5283 800.30MB (1626/0/0) 1639008 2 backup wm 0 - 17659 8.49GB (17660/0/0) 17801280 3 var wm 5284 - 8969 1.77GB (3686/0/0) 3715488 4 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0 5 opt wm 8970 - 14814 2.81GB (5845/0/0) 5891760 6 home wm 14815 - 17659 1.37GB (2845/0/0) 2867760 7 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0 df -k /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s049 1265836 27% / /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s664 855582 36% /export/home /proc 0 0 0 0% /proc fd 0 0 0 0% /dev/fd /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s31743189 1% /var /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s597 2341439 18% /opt swap64 1% /tmp ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian Tan Wee Beng" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, November 09, 2000 2:44 AM Subject: [FW1] Partition for Solaris > > Hi, > I'm installing CP on a Solaris machine for the first time. Can someone > supply me with info on how to partition the harddisk, for example size per > partition???My customer requirement is to store the logs for a year but i'm > not too sure where exactly are the logs store. Is it in the /opt parition or > /var partition??Is there any standard practice??Thanks. > > Cheers > > _________________________________________________________________ ________ > Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. > > Share information about yourself, create your own public profile at > http://profiles.msn.com. > > > > ================================================================= =============== > To unsubscribe from this mailing list, please see the instructions at > http://www.checkpoint.com/services/mailing.html > ================================================================= =============== ================================================================================ To unsubscribe from this mailing list, please see the instructions at http://www.checkpoint.com/services/mailing.html ================================================================================
