Re: [FW1] Partition for Solaris

Aloha Brian,

There are some things you want to take into consideration when
setting up solaris. which partitions are dynamic.which are
static.

/ reletively static if you break out /var and /opt and any user
data /home
/var is the most dynamic partion. make it its own partition I set
this to at least 500 meg to 1 gig.
/opt is where packages are installed give it some good room to
grow. I usually give this the same or more that /var.

/usr/openwin is where the openwindows packages are installed.
some say you should break this out as well I don't usually. if
you do it reduces the size required by the / partition

/tmp your swap partition. I set this to double your ram. if you
run out of swap space your server will crash the same goes for
the / partition.

here is how my partitions look
  0 root wm 0 - 3657 1.76GB
(3658/0/0) 3687264
  1 swap wu 3658 - 5283 800.30MB (1626/0/0)

  2 backup wm 0 - 17659 8.49GB (17660/0/0)
