My reseller and I went through a 10-week struggle to get my permanent license when we upgraded from 3.0b to 4.1. The system is only setup to upgrade one step so all I could get was a 4.0 license and no software or gold support since it was tied to 4.1. They eventually had to open a case and escalate to Israel to manually override the system and allow me to get the 4.1 license, software subscription and gold support. Once the right people were on the case - it only took a week or so but getting to top-level support seems difficult. Check Point Customer Advocacy Phone:option 7 Email: [email protected] Resellers and endusers alike are complaining to Checkpoint about the licensing problems and I did get an indication from Checkpoint during this fiasco that the system is being overhauled. I don't think we'll see the big fix this year though so best advice I have is to send email outlining everything you have (timeline indicating date of purchase, reseller, ID's, certificate keys, etc) then call to follow-up and make sure you get a case number. They were pretty good about giving temporary licenses while they worked on it but the software/support access not being available is what really caused me problems. SecuRemote is a pretty minor deal - my reseller emailed the certificate key for 500-users and I went to the website and generated the license - no problem. But I have the VPN option already - if you don't I guess that might get sticky since they'll have to have the VPN certificate in the system before the reseller will be able to give you a SecuRemote certificate key. Your reseller should be able to assist you as well - mine says he has problems with Checkpoint licensing about 1 out of every 3 or 4 times. Not a very good ratio for the number 1 worldwide firewall provider..... Leigh A.
