AFAIK If you lose your mgt server your enforcement points won't care except that you will be unable to push a new policy out to them, and you will not be logging at all (unless you also have a distributed logging model) This may or may not be an issue in your environment. You know best what your tolerance of downtime is. If your mgt server is on Windows, you can image it periodically (disk copy) and keep the SID the same & that way as long as you can the same hardware together, you can send the image down to new/or repaired hardware. I like imaging since you can be back up in under 30 minutes, usually a lot less than that. For true business continuity though you should have a secondary management server. Should you lose the primary, the secondary will pick up right where the primary left off. If possible, have it on a different subnet and at a different physical location. I do know it's an extra license, I do not know what it runs. ($) It is something we are just beginning to examine ourselves. jm2c >>> [email protected] 10/2/03 4:11:02 AM >>> Hello, Is there a lot of merit to operate a management server(NG FP3) by a redundancy ? When there is just one managment server, are there critical problems if a management server should be down ? My client is thinking of whether or not they should change their current management server into redundancy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
