[FW-1] AW: [FW-1] supporting vlan ?

Hello,

actually this a very interseting feature ;-). It basically means that you
can connect the trunkport of a switch (which must support 802.1Q
VLAN-Tagging) to your Firewall. Your Firewall will "see" each VLAN which is
on that switch as a virtual interface. Communication between those VLANs
will be possible and checked against the rulebase.

Betreff: [FW-1] supporting vlan ?

the NG version now supports vlan. what does this mean
?

what i understand of this is that now with NG, an
interface of a firewall can be trunked, eg a Gig
ethernet, and this way can support many discrete
subnets vis-a-vis individual interfaces.

so does that mean earlier one could not define virtual
IP addresses corresponding to a single interface ?
i believe one could and i have defined multiple IP
addresses on an individual NIC, each IP address
corresponding to a subnet in earlier versions of
checkpoint firewall.
may be i am missing something here......
