33MHz vs. 66MHz - for this you'll have to look at the specs of your motherboard. Simple multiplication yields bus' maximum theoretical upper transferlimit - you'll have to subtract protocol overhead. So we get ~1 Gbit/s 32bit/33MHz (Standard PCI) ~2 Gbit/s 64bit/33MHz or 32bit/66MHz ~4 Gbit/s 64bit/66MHz That's the limit for the PCI bus - which is not the only bottleneck in a system's architecture. Most Sun machines (workgroup and medium range servers) with the new Blade backplane only have a 1,2Gbit/s bus between the PCI controller and the 9.6Gbit/s backplane, seriously limiting their value as high-throughput firewalls, even if you try to optimize PCI bus utilization (e.g. only one Gbit/s card per PCI bus).
