The recommended way is: 4.1SPx to 4.1SP6 In your rules, if you have specified a gateway in installon remove it (all module will be migrated with VPN features, so you will have to disable it on unwanted one), let gateway. run pre_upgrade verifier and correct potential problems 4.1SP6 to NGFP3 (automatic upgrade with CD) run post upgrade verifier postupgrade, preupgrade verifier and a very useful documentation exists on checkpoint site. Go to www.checkpoint.com and download all the manuals that are appropiate. Read them, then make a plan, then read the manuals again and asure that the plan you make is supported, then make a fallback plan in case things don't work for you. I don't see any reasons why you shouldn't be at the latest service pack already, any reasons why your not?
