Re: [FW-1] Secure Platform vs. RedHat7.2

To start off with I am a Sales Rep. for EBIZ a Check Point certified
Appliance provider. Please pardon me if you feel my entry into this thread
is not appropriate.

This is from a post I made some time ago. Basically a pro/con of various
platforms that host Check Point.

Again, I hope the below information is of some help.

To get a good overall view of the Check Point platforms take a strong look
at:

http://www.checkpoint.com/products/choice/platforms/platforms_matrix.html

***** RedHat *****
Pro's - Gaining everyday on Microsoft / Solaris, Fast (I mean fast).
Cost Effective / Open Source (You can give your whole staff a copy to
train with.)

Full tools to recompile the Kernel if needed for various driver
support.

Con's - IT Staff knowledge base still lagging somewhat.
Like Solaris a chore to Harden.

***** Secure Platform *****
Pro -

Fast, Our System the EBIZ TCP23 can give 3+ Gig throughputs

Cost effective,
Secure Platform opens the door for realistic server based pricing.
(That is a XEON system should cost on the order of $5k base.)
      (Look at
http://www.checkpoint.com/products/choice/platforms/ebiz_tcp23.html)

Check Point owns the OS so trouble with support call issues go away.
(That is no wondering if it is the CP product or the Platform OS, all
            software Check Point)

(Have been told by Check Point that features like routing are being
      added to future revs.)

Check Point will provide Kernel updates, Hot Fixes, etc.

Like moving from NT to Red Hat the Check Point licenses transfer
      without added cost.

Cons -

New Release,
Some what new in the field. Must ask yourself, how new are the
latest from MS, Red Hat, Sun?

Driver Support,
Secure Platform is reduced to minimum so some drivers and packages
      are not there.

This is where the rubber meets the road. You must spec hardware to
work with Secure Platform.
That is all hardware drivers must be part of Secure Platforms kernel
build.

In creating a strong Intel based appliance, EBIZ provided CP divers
that are now in SPFP3)

OPSEC Ties,
Check Point states that Secure Platform should work fine with any
OPSEC Certified software partners.
I assume that Stone Beat would work fine form above statement.

OPSEC Certified Hardware such as the EBIZ Terian Line are
pre-engineered to work perfectly with NG-SP.
