Re: [FW-1] VPN performance metrics

The PS command will give you real world CPU Utilization (its output is the
percetange of time over the last minute the processor was working with
that).
If a process has a %CPU value higher than 15% your processor is full and is
begging for mercy...

The %MEM is diferent, it'll give you the amount of memory reserved... it's
variations are small.

Asunto: [FW-1] VPN performance metrics

We are looking to implement a VPN but first we need to upgrade our old Sun
Ultrasparc 5's and we have been looking at the new Sun Fire V120 servers but
I am worried that the fastest CPU available is 650 Mhz.

We are looking to pass up to 4Mb of traffic over around 20 sessions using
3DES or AES encryption. Are these machines going to be fast enough to do the
encryption in software as we are not looking to add a dedicated VPN
accelerator card?

Are there any real world performance metrics available for CPU and memory
load while doing encryption?

Thanks,

Richard Hebdon
