Re: [FW-1] why my fw hang and how to keep message file rotated?

Hi Kenny and all others,

The problem you discribed seems familiar to me. I'm running NG FP2 on a
IP440 with IPSO 3.5-FCS6. Even console access wasn't possible. The first
time this happend I could connect again after a couple of minutes. This
seemed to be a swap problem ([LOG_CRIT] kernel: swap_pager: out of space)
but the second time there was no FW-logging and nothing in the Nokia system
logs.
Who has some clues?

Hi..Dear all,

Q1)I found my checkpoint solaris firewall was not contactable since midnight
1:00am (I have a continue ping software to check). This morning when I am in
office, I found it fails to function (connection down). Then I went to
server room, wanted to see if the network cards are up but I found myself
looking at a blank screen that does not come up even with bunch of
keystrokes.. I have to reboot it manually. Then it come back to normal. I
checked the /var/adm/messages. There is nothing being recorded from 1:00am
to the time I reboot.

See below there is no messages recorded between 1:00am and 9:00am and 9:00
is the time I reboot. (I don't think the ntp message is the problem). Can
you tell me what cause my fw to hang and how to prevent this.

Q2)I found my /var/adm/messages keep accumulated. I thought it will rotate
to save as messages.0 messages.1 and etc. How to make my messages rotated
and save as messages.0, messages.1 perweek ?

see below.. it stop rotates since 17th Aug 2001. Why? How to keep it
rotated?
