If you're talking about access to specific boxes (servers), an LMHOSTS file should do the trick. On the other hand, if you want to be able to see an ungodly number of boxes, WINS is the only real option. What I've done at times is set up an LMHOSTS file for the servers, but kept the WINS pointers intact as in your setup. The LMHOSTS file facilitates initial (and critical) NBT communications, and the WINS queries (usually) catch up... Sooner or later. I should also clarify that if you do have an MTU issue, the browsing problem is not your only worry. If you can get reliable and working NBT communication (for me, "reliable" means LMHOSTS-facilitated) yet you have network and/or share browsing issues or file-transferring issues, you have an MTU issue on your hands. -----Original Message----- From: Ilia Shapira [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, May 14, 2002 4:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FW-1] WINS Question Ok if not WINS what do you think I should use ? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Russell Washington" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 13, 2002 6:25 PM Subject: Re: [FW-1] WINS Question > I have to concur.
