You should be tunneling your X sessions through SSH. If you need to reconfigure
the firewall to get X to work, you are not configuring X and SSH correctly
and losing any security you gained with SSH.

Check that both the SSH client and server are configured to do X forwarding
and that the DISPLAY variable is set appropriately at the SSH server/X client.
