/etc/init.d/inetinit (The same script IIRC) is used to intialize
networking on your system.

in.routed is started automatically if you are a router. You are a router
to solaris if you have more than two interfaces and there is no
/etc/notrouter file. As to why this broke your access to the box, well
that could have happened for a number of reasons.

If you are not familiar with Solaris, however, you probably should not set
up a firewall on it. Running routed and other services on a firewall is a
bad idea and should be avoided unless it is absolutely necessary.
