FW1 was never intended to filter Email or stop the numerous email born viruses. The product can be adapted but it will not do it all. The best method to insure any virus threat is to scan 100% of all email with a good commercial email/virus gateway product. I use McAfee SMTP WebShield while others use Trend Micro and others use Brightmailetc.. There are several good product out there that will greatly enhance network security. The advantages in using these products are, no overhead on the Firewall, the ability to filter email content, selectively accept or block attachments or files, and lastly the ability to notify the sender that their email had a virus attached. This may not help in SPAM attached viruses but company contacts and valid email users will greatly appreciate the notification.
