[FW-1] Strange connectivity problem!

Have any of you guys came a cross a situation like this?

i have two networks connecting through nokia IP440 3.4.1 fcs10 with fw-1
4.1sp5 running on it. one network consists of windows 2000 pro PCs, xp pro
PCs and a few win95 PCs. the other network consist of few win NT servers and
couple 2000 servers(not advanced and without active directory).

whenever somebody tries to copy a big file(>>1 MB) from the server to a PC
or vice versa , they get a network connectivity error. on trying a couple
more times, it works sometimes). this happens also if you are just exploring
the directories on the mapped drive. this happens intermittently and only
with 2000 servers. anything with NT servers works just fine.

i know that the mtu size in NT and 2000 has changed from ~1460 to ~1500. and
the netbios port 139 used for NT is not used for 2000 or Xp , instead it
uses 445 smp.

microsoft says, its a problem with the firewall or the switches in between.

any ideas?
