You may find your answer if you check the archives of this list.

There have been about 20 emails on this very subject since January, all of
which have been answered in the same way.

First, exchange is a terrible mail server, but many of us are forced to
use it. Consider using Exchange IMAP or OWA across SR connections.

Second, MTU is often a problem where Exchange is concerned, whether the
client is using DSL or just a dialup. Turning down the MTU on the server
slightly may alleviate your problem.

Lastly, try a different build of SR.

You did not mention whether or not you were using digital certificates,
however they often cause an MTU problem as well.
