Re: [FW-1] blocking MSN Messenger

Title: blocking MSN Messenger
glenn,
I did some research and ended up blocking 64.4.0.0/27(any port). I do think that msn servers would be spread all around but the above blocking worked for me. i m located in Kansas city, MO.this will allow all websites from Microsoft, including hotmail to be accessed. if you want to stop www.hotmail.com also then change the mask bits to 26.
msn worked pretty ok but yahoo was a pain coz it has its chat servers all over the ip address scheme. its mainly the 216.136.128/25 nw but then some of the pages on www.yahoo.com also point their. blocking ports is not at all possible since it uses almost everything, 20,21,23,25,37,119,5050 and god know what else.

as i said earlier, i think that it depends on the region you are in. the above settings work for me.

Subject: [FW-1] blocking MSN Messenger

Hi, I seem to recall there have been posts here or elsewhere regarding blocking all access to MSN Messenger, notably that it's difficult due to port/server usage.

Just wondering if anyone has any tricks/ideas for 4.1 and/or NG.

Thanks,

Glenn
