You may want to do what we did to speed up our log viewer.  Turn of IP resolution on the log viewer.
Made ours much faster.

Subject: [FW-1] Log viewer horribly slow

Hi @ll,
few weeks ago i switched a machine from being mgmt and module to a distibuted installation. Now the box (Sun U1, SunOS 2.6, no routing anymore, one IF, enough disc space, separate network) is only mgmt and has 3 modules connected. So there is no traffic anymore on the box and it shows no heavy use - it is only the mgmt nothing else. Logfiles are being switched nightly by cron.
From my point of view, entries in the logviewer should appear a little bit faster than they did before from remote modules, since the machine's load decreased. The point is that I have the exact opposite: The logviewer is much slower than before, entries need up to 5 minutes to emerge.
Any ideas? Thx
Steffen
