Re: [FW-1] Newbie Question

The version of BSD has been customised by Nokia, you must connect and edit
the config using Voyager.
Connect using a serial cable, baud 9600, check for the IP on eth1
(ifconfig -a) then issue a 'fwstop' from the prompt.
Now connect a pc on that subnet to eth1. Now connect via a web browser,
'hopefully' the default port hasn't been changed from 80!. I guess you could
check by issuing a 'netstat -a' just to see whats listening.

You're in, do all your changes using this interface. If you get really
stuck, you could delete the active file and start again. I doubt you'll find
that info in phoneboys book however so proceed with caution!

Excellent answers from all! Thank you very much!

One of my many searches in the past two weeks has been to find this fabled
software package called "Voyager"! I now find out that it's on the appliance
and is accessible via a web browser. Excellent. Is it on a specific port?

Let me ask a more specific question. - I need to add a new block of IP's and
I have made all of the changes necessary to the router and yet I still
cannot see them behind the firewall. I'm assuming that I need to add this
block to the IPSO configuration. I have looked at /config/db/initial (I am
making a big assumption here that this is my cfg file) and found what looks
to be the correct place to insert a new line.

Am I way off the mark here?

I second that reccomendation FWIW. Phoneboy's book is the closest thing to a
"how to actually
use FW-1" that has ever been written.. He did an excellent job in my opinion
and if I had to
choose between having his book or the CP manual with a support contract I'd
choose his book.
Seriously.
FYI the unix version on the Nokia if I'm not mistaken is a propietary
hardened version of BSD
known as IPSO.

Subject: [FW-1] Newbie Question

We purchased, through a bankruptcy sale, an entire operation that utilizes
Firewall-1. I'm not sure why but Checkpoint is being less than helpful as we
(I) attempt to figure it out. They have transferred the license but when
asked about documentation, the only answer I have received is to check the
knowledge base on-line. Now, as good as the knowledge base is, for a newbie,
I am looking for a manual that covers everything or at least give me an
understanding of the unit. The one we have is on a NOKIA box and I don't
even know what flavour of UNIX it runs for an O/S! Apparently I can get to
the network on the other side by utilizing something called SecureRemote but
I can find no step by step account of how to accomplish this.

If anyone knows of an on-line manual or how I go about getting a printed one
- please enlighten me.

Thanks for your help!
