Re: [FW-1] FW-1 and OSPF

Title: RE: [FW-1] FW-1 and OSPF

Since you're not using BGP, I don't think your internal routers will like having to do a recursive lookup to form neighbor relationships with your Concentrator (i.e. it won't work - there's no such thing as "ospf multihop").  You can run OSPF on the firewall, which would work.  Or, if the remote nodes are finite and static, just use static routes.  Note that this is usually the case with the Concentrator, since it assigns internal addresses for dialup users, and site-to-site VPNs are not so likely to be dynamic (nor would you want them to be).

HTH (a bit, anyway :)

Subject: [FW-1] FW-1 and OSPF

I am considering placing the internal interface of a VPN Concentrator onto
a DMZ interface of the FW-1, so that VPN users must traverse the firewall
to reach the internal network.

The VPN Concentrator (Cisco VPN 3000) can be configured to run OSPF on the
internal interface, so the VPN Concentrator can use "Reverse Route
Injection" to inject users' internal IP addresses (which may be static for
some users, e.g. for network management/security purposes) into OSPF, and
thus make them reachable by the rest of the internal network.

Is it possible to pass OSPF routing information between FW-1 interfaces
(e.g. a DMZ and the internal network), given that OSPF uses multicast
packets? Note, this doesn't involve running OSPF on the firewall, but
requires the passing of OSPF routing information between two FW-1
interfaces.

Cheers,

Matt
