So to sum up and some more questions.

... when clicking on the 'get interfaces' button

If the query is internal it uses CP-SIC (after 4.1)
If its external then SNMP is used.

Which SNMP is used is it the Check Point one or the OS?
How can I tell if the SIC is running?

Definitely. An external firewall would be treated like any other object
and a standard snmp query would be sent.
