What patch level are you on w/ Solaris 6? What other processes are
running that could be eating memory (top)? Is it main memory that's
getting eaten up or virtual? Unfortunately, your graph didn't come thru
cleanly so it's hard to tell what your talking about at this point.
What type's of processes are you using this firewall for (web browsing,
VPN, etc...)? Fw pstat shows what when this occurs (cut and paste the
output). Have you allocated extra memory to the fw process in the
/etc/system file (check phoneboy.com for syntax on this)?

Subject: [FW-1] Memory usage FW-1 - Solaris

Hi,
Our scenario is FW-1 4.1 SP5 and SUN 220-Solaris 6.
Every 3 months (aprox) we have to reboot the machine because the
firewall's performance drops abruptly and it becomes almost out of
service. We are monitoring it and the only clue we obtained is that what
is causing this is the degradation of the free memory usage. Here is our
remstats graphic showing this fact:

 <<...OLE_Obj...>>

the two peaks (beggining of thecember and ending of february) show the
two reboots we had to force. We're monitoring also the memory used bye
the firewall application (fw pstat
command) and we don't see the same degradation: <<...OLE_Obj...>>

We don't understand why this is happening. The firewall is the only
important process that is running in the machine and it's not using all
the memory it has been assigned (11 Mb). The machine has 2 Gb of real
memory. If you guys have any clue we'll be very gratefull, Thanks,
Meryan
