Re: [FW-1] Basic questions regarding Fw-1

Hi,
I was able to ping to the FW after uloading the default rules. Now how do I
add the rule to allow communication between the GUI client and Management
server/FW on Linux RH based FW ? In the documentation, it is mentioned that
if the IP address of the GUI client is explicitly mentioned while
configuring the client , then no specific rule is required to allow
communication from the GUI client to the Firewall..

Divakaran

Try an fw unload all@localhost
After this, there is no rulebase loaded on the FW and you should be able to
connect to the FW. After that make a new rulebase which allows FW-1
communication between FW and GUI client and then reinstall the policy.

Hi,
Before installing the FW-1 I was able to ping to the GUI client machine.
moreover the management station and the client are in the same IP network.
So i thinkl the routing isa proper.

Divakaran.

Can your firewall route back to your client machine? I'm guessing a routing

problem if this is the initial install of the firewall s'ware w/ just the
default policy set and you've added the gui-client correctly via cpconfig.

Good luck.

Hi:
I am a novice to this Firewall world but, maybe that machine is not
allowed to connect to the firewall due to the firewall's rules.
        Just trying to help

Hi,

I have installed the GUI client on a Windows machine. I have also added
that PC's IP address on the GUI client list on the server. The fingerprint
has been generated on the Server. When I try to login to the server from the

GUI client the client tries to connect and then it hangs ( Not reponding).
What could be the problem ?

Divakaran

                Hi Divakaran.

You need a Xmotif license to run the policy editor on the fw

server. To
manage the policies you must install the GUI client in a PC
, the software
                is contained in CD installation.
                Regards
                Manel.

                Hi,
I am new to FW-1. I have just installed the FW-1 on RH
Linux6.2. The Fw-1
module and the management server are the same Machine.
                My questions are as follows
                1. How do I open the GUI based Managment utility ?
2.How do I open the policy editor ( GUI based). As per the
documentation
that came with Checkpoint firewall, I need to run this
binary file called
fwpolicy . But i dont find this utility in the directory .
Do I have to
                install it separately.

                Thanks in advance
