Re: [FW-1] VPN-1 & Appliances

Goran, obviously, you have to do some DD to make a decision about which
appliance to use. It depends on many factors such as performance
requirements, price, number of users, environment, technical personnel,
vendor's name and quality of support. There are many new names and devices.
Some of them you can find here:
http://www.rtek2000.com/Tech/InternetSecureLinks.html#appl

But again, do not rely upon somebody's opinion. Do you DD yourself and
present your document to your management. I usually create a spreadsheet
with various parameters, price, and other factors. It'll help you (or your
management) to make a decision.
Best of luck!

Subject: [FW-1] VPN-1 & Appliances

Does anyone have a good recommendation for which appliance to use for a VPN
solution.

I am looking (for a client) at FW-1/VPN-1 at the hub and an appliance at
each end of a spoke. I see 4 to 5 spokes which will have 128 or 256 K
connection to the Internet. Head Office will have something faster (not sure
yet).

The remote offices are small and cannot (will not) afford a full Checkpoint
F/W. The remotes will allow browsing to the Internet through their local
connection and the VPN back to head office. Any external access to the
network will be done through the main Checkpoint F/W.

Appliances that I can think of off the top of my head

SonicWall
Cisco
Watchguard
Nokia

Thoughts & opinions

Thanx
