Also note that VRRP (currently) is strictly a failover-oriented HA solution, whereas StoneBeat can provide active/active for load balancing. This is not to say that StoneBeat is a superior solution, but it does provide additional functionality; e.g. Miles' note regarding custom testing is relevant, as VRRP will only fail over in the case of layer 2 NIC failure.

Be aware that VRRP does not look for failure in the Firewall software. It
only looks for hardware/network failure.

i have two questions about the differences between
VRRP(on Nokia) and Stonebeat.
I tested Stonebeat (SB) on Solaris and i'm very
please.
Now i must test vrrp on nokia.
Questions are :
* on SB, there is a link between the 2 modules
(heartbit). Is it the same on Nokia ?
* on SB, there a file of check
(/stoneabeat/etc/checklist i think) to determined when
the primary module must switch (or alert the
manager)on the secondary (by scenarios). How it's
possible to do it with Nokia VRRP ?
