I don't think that by opening TCP/135 your problems will go away. It is a bit weird what you are experiencing though. I may be wrong but If you get a message saying "RPC Server is not available" by a WEB server, that doesn't mean it is a problem having to do with TCP/135... I think that it is a bit tricky. Maybe people (via the Internet i presume and by the Internet ONLY) are loosing connection to your WEB Server and that is the reason why they get a message like that. Why don't you try to smooth out the TCP/IP timeouts ON the WEB servers and then have a look at the WEB servers log files. If you have IIS5 on Win2K Adv Srv. along with Clustering, then there might be an issue of misconfiguration. I suggest you start looking from there... DO NOT OPEN ANY TCP/135 PORTS UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE, THAT IS WHEN USING MTS SERVER AND NOT IIS SERVER. If a user then refreshes the error goes away. I was searching MS's site and found that it appears that RPC traffic is on Port 135/TCP. Any issues with opening this up to web servers? I know I don't want to let the NETBios ports through to the web servers from the internet. But are there issues with this one port or has anyone else seen this error and know how to fix it? We are running IIS5 on Win2k Adv Server. TIA.
