RE: [FW1] IPSO boot manager upgrade on IP300 Series

Tracy,

I have upgraded 15 remote boxes using VERY non-technical people
through the console.
The upgrade went perfect. I did each one with myself on the other line.
Before I had them do the upgrade I copied all the necessary files
(nkipflash.bin to /etc) to the box
and emailed them the procedures on what to do.
I then showed them how to create a Hyperterminal session.
They then copied and pasted the commands.
After the boot manger was upgraded I did the rest remotly.
Using SSH for a remote command session and SSL for the Voyager

Here is a sample of what I emailed them.

(Step 1: Type the following.)

Console into NOKIA

(Step 2: Type the following.)

>	sync; reboot (Press Enter)

(Step 3: When it is rebooting, you will see this.)

>	Verifying DMI Pool Data
>	1 . . . Bootmgr
>	2 . . . IPSO
>	Default: 1

(When you see the following message, press any key to enter the command
mode.)

>	Loading boot manager..Bootmgr loaded.
>	Entering autoboot mode. Type any character to enter command

(You will then see this; BOOTMGR[0]>	)

(Step 4: Type the following.)

>	boot -s (Press Enter)

(Step 5: When you see the following message, press RETURN or ENTER key)

>	Enter pathname of shell or RETURN for sh:

(Step 6: Type the following.)

>	/etc/upgrade_bootmgr wd0 /etc/nkipflash.bin (Press Enter)

(Type Y to continue)

>	reboot	(Press Enter)

(Step 7: When it is rebooting, you will see this.)

>	Verifying DMI Pool Data
>	1 . . . Bootmgr
>	2 . . . IPSO
>	Default: 1

(When you see the following message, press any key to enter the command
mode.	)

>	Loading boot manager..Bootmgr loaded.
>	Entering autoboot mode. Type any character to enter command

(You will then see this; BOOTMGR[0]>	)

(Step 8: Type the following.)

>	set-defaults	(Press Enter)

(Step 9: Type the following.)

>	printenv	(Press Enter)

(You should now see somthing in the first line that states this: base
kernel=3.4-fcs1 )
  ( See example below)

> Bootmgr Revision: 3.3,base kernel=3.4-fcs1 02.12.2001.102644

> autoboot: YES

> bootwait: 5

> boot-file: /image/current/kernel

> boot-flags:

> boot-device: wd0

(Step 10: Type the following.)

>	halt	(Press Enter)

 (Press any key to reboot)

I hope this helps

Subject: [FW1] IPSO boot manager upgrade on IP300 Series

Hi,

I have recently upgraded my Nokia IP440's to IPSO v3.3 with no problems. I
now
need to upgrade my Nokia IP330's to IPSO v3.3 which requires a boot manager
upgrade at the console. Here's the rub... These boxes are remotely located
and
I am going to be walking fairly non-technical people through the console
part of
the upgrade. The instructions are pretty straightforward, but I was
wondering
if anyone has had any bad experiences with this that I should be aware of.

Thanks, Tracy
