[FW1] fwauthd, in.ahclient & ssl

i'm trying to get ssl client authentication working. fw-1 4.1 sp3. a
generated the certs, had them signed and modified the fwauthd.conf file to
read

443             in.ahclientd    wait    443 ssl:opnorthssl

and stop/started the fw. when i connect via https://fw/ a small amount of
traffic is exchanged with the fw and then the browser (ie 5.5) reports
"the page you are looking for is currently unavailable". i tried
https://fw:443/ also.

http://fw/ works (non encrypted - i have
80             in.ahclientd    wait    80
in the fwauthd.conf file)

questions: 

1) what fwauthd.conf line are other people using?

2) the faq has various things after the "ssl:" .. what is the meaning of
   what follows the colon? i'm assuming it is the name of the cert i
   generated on the gui.. ? 

3) the doc is unclear about what licensing is required for https client
   auth. is encryption licensing required? 

4) any other ideas to try to help determine why this isnt working?
