We've tried and tried to get Webtrends Firewall Suite to do something useful, but mostly they seem to treat FW logs like website logs... counting things that are easily countable, regardless of whether or not it's *useful* to count them. We're interested in security-related stats more than bandwidth-usage stats. Plus their graphing algorithm has some major bugs -- goofy results with line graphs, etc. It's odd, since Webtrends seems to get high marks. It seems great for websites, but I really think it's not a very good product for firewalls. We had a brief demo of the Checkpoint logging product. Anybody used it in the real world? We've considered dumping the logs to SQL somehow (any utilities for that?) and then desiging our own reports. That's a bit of a pain, but we haven't seen anything else that's got what we need. We really just want something that will show us daily or twice daily that we're "in the presence of normality", and display some obvious visual cues if we're not.
