hi, i was able to find the cause of the problem through extensive testing. The factors involved in the problem are Bandwidth between server and client - as bandwidth decreases the problem surfaces Outlook is a bandwidth intensive application. Timeout in outlook profile - default is 30 seconds and max can be made to 999 Encryption scheme - FWZ gives better performance then IKE The actual time out for outlook = time out in profile - authentication time - internet delay. thus when the client tries to access outlook the application gives an error due to timeout. moreover large size mails have problem in comparison to the small size mails. The user is able to check his mails but cannot reply to the mail using outlook. Our exchange server is behind the FW, all connections work fine,and I don't see any packets being dropped in the FW logs.
