[FW1] Summary: NAT - Manual or Auto??
Thanks to all who responded to this thread.
To summarise:
1) Manual NAT is more flexible in that you can change the rule order
2) Auto NAT lacks granularity in being able to NAT specific services but not others.
3) Some people experience intermittent failure with auto NAT
4) Manual NAT makes you think more about your access rules
5) Manual NAT rules are not deleted when you delete an object
6) Auto rules are built in objects.C and can cause compile time to increase dramatically
7) Auto NAT rules are read only and can not be tweaked
8) Auto NAT is just plain annoying (I think that was my favourite response!)
So the verdict is manual NAT unless you have a very simple network and rulebase.
