Try : netstat -nrv and then the netmask magicly appears ;-) (under solaris/sunos)

Yep ! you'll have a larger range of IP address.

Yes, for example, you can divide a net into two different :

net                     mask                         gateway
192.126.1.0        255.255.255.192         first_gw
192.168.1.64      255.255.255.192         second_gw

magic, isn't it ?

The 'G' means gateway. This means the host is a gateway to reach
some (sub)nets.
