RE: [FW1] State Table

Martin,

As mentioned in the other responses to your question - you can use the perl
script off of Lance Spitzner's web page to view the connections table in a
more readable format.

However, if you want to directly view the state table's contents using the
firewall commands use the following:

$FWDIR/bin/fw tab -t connections -u

This will display the contents of the state table in hex. This means you
would have to convert it to decimal, etc. if you want to read it quickly -
unless you can read hex fast...(Spitzner's perl script does the conversion
and formatting for you...)

In addition to Spitzner's link you can use this link for more info -
although this link does not directly relate to "viewing the state table" it
does reference some things on viewing the state table and it's format - the
link is: http://www.phoneboy.com/faq/0134.html

Try http://www.enteract.com/~lspitz <http://www.enteract.com/~lspitz>

There's a good doc on the state table there.

Cheers,
Anders :)

Subject: [FW1] State Table

I am trying to understand how the state table works in checkpoint fw-1.
What is the state table. What happens to the state table when I stop and
start the fw-1 service. What happens to connections when the service stops
and starts?

Say I was doing a ftp file transfer or http file transfer and the service
was restarted. What happens to the state table or what happens to the tcp
connection?

Thank you very much
