[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] [FW1] FW-1 external interface assigned via DHCP
A client has a FW-1 box that has recently moved from DSL to a cable modem. The cable modem is of the "consumer" grade service right now, and the IP address is assigned via DHCP. I attempted to configure the FW-1 box (4.1 SP1 running on NT 4.0 SP6) to use DHCP, and noticed two things. First, once FW-1 was installed, the box would not receive an address via DHCP, even with the FW-1 service stopped (and "control IP forwarding" disabled). Second, when FW-1 was manually started, it'd cry about not finding the IP address it wanted to see -- that was to be expected, I guess. My workaround was to reconfigure the box with a static IP -- the IP that was originally assigned via DHCP before the installation of FW-1. Worked great for a few weeks. Then yesterday, it was noticed that network connectivity was sporadic, and today it's apparent that the cause is that the IP address has been given to another user. Aside from the headache of relicensing the box again, has anyone had any experience with having the FW-1 server using DHCP? The likelihood of the IP address ever actually changing is on the virge of non-existence, since the device will always be renewing the same IP. Any ideas? (I was wondering if I could somehow install some sort of app on the FW box that would "simulate" the DHCP request and allocation process -- even though the box is configured statically.) Help!
