David, Are your trying to use the 5494 as a bridge for IP traffic? If so, then there's not too much to do (other than setting up the 5494 and its partner bridge), although I've never done it personally. The local LAN will appear to be on the same subnet as the LAN on the "other" side of the pair of bridges, and the bridges (as always) will be transparent to the IP layer of things, even though the 5494 is quite a traditional bridge. You may care to check out the 5494 doc: http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/Shelves/CO20BK05 Chapter 8 of the "5494 Planning Guide" talks about the bridging support. -Robert At 11:24 AM 5/9/01 -0400, [email protected] wrote: > >Hi, >I have a requirement to have a IBM 5494 Remote Control Unit attached to our >firewall. >The unit is used with a AS/400 system on a distant end. >We are going to have a T1 point-to-point between us and our distant end. >Our client is configuring this 5494 Control unit to us SNA end-to-end. >The workstations will talk to this using IBM client access software pointed >to the Mac address of the Ethernet interface on the IBM 5494. >My question is how can I connect this unit to one of my available Ethernet >interfaces on my Nokia IP440 Firewall without an IP address?
