Before anyone finds out the hard way, this is not entirely true. 1) Checkpoint does not update the RealSecure product they sell as often as ISS does. If you want the LATEST up to date NIDS, you should purchase the ISS product directly. 2) You cannot use a RealSecure Workgroup Management Console to manage ISS products and Checkpoint OEM'd products. You would think that you could, but you can't. It's because the license.key file you have for your ISS Console cannot handle the Checkpoint licensed products. This means you must run more than one management console. The price for the Checkpoint OEM product is cheaper though... I would agree that ISS has the best NIDS right now. Alot of unix evangelists seem to dog them in favor of snort and tripwire. This is the same as the Checkpoint product since they selling it OEM. To analyze the logs you might look for Websense - I don´t use it right now but from the description it is able to process the FW-1 logs and give you a report on past events.
