If you're going to run Solaris on Intel, you may as well just
use Linux instead. Performance is comparable, plus it's a lot
cheaper.
What sort of throughput are you after ?
Nokias are really only for carrier level loads as they perform
well at high bandwidths.

Solaris???
Helo.
I think that perhaps choice 1 would be a better option. Similar CPU
speeds can be achieved with dual processors in a Sun Enterprise box.
Also, have you considered using an apliance device like Nokia? It would
probably be cheaper and and more robust. I suggest giving a Nokia vendor
a call for a demo before committing a to server.

We
are about to make a decision on what hardware we should buy for our
next firewall-1. We should make our minds about the following
choices:
1.Firewall-1 running on Solaris OS (on a Sun Enterprise box
or any UltraSparc based box) 2.Firewall-1 running on Solaris OS (on a
Intel based box, say P-III 900 , for instance)
Even on the second
choice with a high speed processor P-III 900 Mhz , do you think it is
unreliable to run Firewall-1 on the second choice? Can anyone give me
some advice on this?
