You are a star of the higest order!!

I ran

    fw unload localhost

and then ran back to my desk fired up the policy GUI, changed the security
policy on the interfaces (yes, all of them!) and then applied it again....
it seems the box is MUCH happier now and is doing job job correctly.

Many Many thanks, you have no idea how relieved I am now...

Steve (off to slap the member of staff who caused all this trouble!)
