It sounds like you've got a "wire crossed". My guess would be that there's still a path around the firewall, to the Internet, as what it sounds like you're seeing is broadcast traffic. Make sure the firewall is the only path IN/OUT of your network, and then verify routing is correct. Hope this helps....
