Does a ping to the external interface of your firewall behave in the same manner ?

If so, I'd put this down to transient internet conditions.

I have about 20 servers accessible from the internet by static NAT. Sometimes, when i ping these servers from the internet, I get a timeout and then a reply and then a timeout. Then when i try to ping it again, i will get all replies.

Any ideas?
