RE: RE: [FW1] mgmt&fw modules split issues

Product.conf is located under \winnt\fw1\4.1\conf and it does exist in NT.

On NT, the information is not stored in "product.conf". Instead the
settings for the firewall product is under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->CHECK POINT->FW1->41

Hi Jeff:

I already got the new license OK.
When proceeding to delete the product.conf file and
re-run the cpconfig tool, I just couldn't find it
anywhere. There's no such product.conf file.
Could you please tell me the way to such a file, or
does it have a different name in this platform?
Thank you for your reply,
Orlando Goza.

Hi Orlando,

To answer your questions:

1. Go to the Checkpoint licensing center
(http://license.checkpoint.com) and
use your existing certificate key to request a
license. You can change the
license to reflect the IP address changes. You need
to provide an
explanation to them in the comments field. This
request is handled manually
and usually takes anywhere from 24 to 48 hours.

2. Are you planning on moving to a high availablity or
clustering solution
with your firewall? You will not need to actually
re-install the product.
Just delete the product.conf file and re-run the
cpconfig tool. This will
step you through configuring the firewall as just a
module and create a new
product.conf file. But in order to maintain your
existing policy and
objects you need to back up your configuration
directory and move it to your
new management station. If you have never done this
before, I would
strongly advise seeking assistance. One wrong move,
and you could be
reconstructing your entire policy.

Subject: [FW1] mgmt&fw modules split issues

Hello:

Scenario:

CP2000 SP3 on NT 4.0, SP6a
VPN-1 Enterprise Encryption Center license
Standalone installation (both mgmt and fw modules on
the same box).

We want to separate both modules on dedicated boxes.

Questions:

1.- Do we have to request a new license for each
module again? or do we have to request a new license
only for the mgmt module? (since the fw module will
retain the original ip address for which a license was
previously obtained).

2.- How can the mgmt module be uninstalled so that
only the fw module remains installed and active on the
box?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks you so much in advance for your invaluable
help.

Orlando Goza.
