To analyse the traffic, I wouldn't mess with the firewall. Just put a good sniffer on the same segment. It'll give you much more information, then you'll be able to get from your fw computer without installing on it some extra software. If you're interested in your fw computer's CPU load, memory usage etc.., there are plenty of tools that come with Unix OS (xload, top etc..)
