My first question to you, Mona, is what is the dedicated point to point connection for? If it is used for sensitive information between sites, do you REALLY want it to fail-over to going across the internet? If it isn't an issue, you may investigate in the future a pair of internet connections from different ISPs for better redundancy. That said, I wouldn't bother with running an extra routing protocol here. I would just add a static route on each router with a different metric. For example, your internet border router would have a static route to your remote site with a cost of 10 while the point to point router would have a cost of 1. Likewise, your point to point router would have a cost of 10 to the internet while the internet border router would have a cost of 1 add these routes on your gateway and you should be fine. If you really want to, you can do the above with dynamic routing protocols. I'm doing it with OSPF without much of a problem. I wanted to configure load balancing between the 2 routers. The exact scenario is: Inside router serving local subnet traffic to central office over serial point-to-point Routing of external traffic over the fw-1 through the outside router through ISP I was hoping that the two routers would backup each other by communicating through the firewall their presence. If the inside router was to fail, the inside traffic would route to the central office via the internet and if outside router was to fail, the Internet traffic would go through the point-to-point. Is there a way I can accomplish this?
