Re: [FW1] Corrupt .W file or something else?

you can try recompiling your rulebases.fws file. That is the file that the
GUI actually uses to read the policies, the .W file is what gets complied to
be pushed to the firewalls. Anyhow, there's a doc on phoneboy that explains
all this pretty well...
http://www.phoneboy.com/fw1/faq/0136.html

according to phoneboy, the command to recomplie your rulebases.fws file is
as follows:
$FWDIR\FW\conf> for %i in (*.W) do fw fwm -g %i

I've never had much luck with that, however... I've done better with
$FWDIR\conf> for %i in (*.W) do fw m -g %i (note: not FW FWM but simply FW
M)

or maybe I'm just smoking crack. It's been a while since I needed to run
that command on an NT box... try 'em both and see what works!

Regardless, if you're running 4.0 version of the management station on
win2k, that could be the problem right there.. last I checked, only 4.1 (w/
some service pack) was supported. If it IS 4.1, and you simply "copied" the
*.W files over from a 4.0 MS, you got really lucky that that's all that
broke. Because that just shouldn't work.

Additionally, check your video drivers. Sounds goofy, but it's worth a
shot.
